Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups & Spoons
  • Frying pan or skillet
  • Spatula
  • Baking Sheet (optional)
  • Tongs
  • Paper Towels

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. fresh lump crab meat
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Crab Meat: Gently pick through the crab meat to ensure there are no shells. Place the crab meat in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix the Ingredients: Add the breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, parsley, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the crab meat. Stir gently to combine all ingredients. Be careful not to break the crab meat too much.
  • Form the Bites: Use your hands to form small bite-sized balls or patties from the mixture. Aim for about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
  • Cook the Crab Cake Bites: Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the crab cake bites. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the pan and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Don’t Overmix: When combining the ingredients, be careful not to overmix the crab meat, as it can become mushy. The key is to keep the lumps intact to preserve the texture.
  • Frying Temperature: Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying the bites to avoid them absorbing too much oil, which can make them greasy. Medium heat works best.
  • Baking Option: If you prefer a lighter option, bake the crab cake bites at 400°F for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
